A New 13 day Wavespell in the Mayan Sacred Calendar
20/7/2025

What does it mean and What’s in store for us?
We enter the wavespell of the White Magnetic Mirror on 20th July and for the next thirteen days it is all about our ‘perception’ and how we relate to the world.
The Mayan name for Mirror is Etznab. This energy is intense and all pervading, shining a bright spotlight on the very areas that we usually try to hide. If these shadow areas are worked with, transformed and honoured, the illusion of mirrors is transmuted into windows. Now, through the window, we can see our way clearly. Mirror energy is high voltage energy that we can use for your own discovery, teaching and healing. In Psychotherapy there is a classic technique used called ‘mirroring’. If used effectively it can reflect a client’s behaviours and even memories back to them, so they have a greater sense of self-awareness acutely in that moment. It can be incredibly therapeutic in the right setting; literally allowing the client to see themselves in a new light and with more understanding of their journey and experiences. This is what the mirror wave offers - In the hall of mirrors, there is no right or wrong, no good or bad – there is only the reflection of what is.
Look at the arresting monochrome image created especially for this blog, seemingly more profound because black and white photography has a way of capturing the essence of the moment, like a frame frozen in time. The image wreaks of power and intent. The majestic ‘pyramid shaped’ rock looms up in the centre of the image, as though accessing the heavens and is encased in a swirling mass of coastal waters. Then see it literally mirrored in the bottom half of the image. As above – As Below. The midline of this ever-expanding present moment, we see heaven and earth merging as one. The White Mirror can only reflect what is, whether truth, beauty or illusion. When we see our own reflection, we see the truth about ourselves; when we become aware of the illusions and distortions within ourselves, it is this ‘clarity of perception’ in any given moment that will transform them.
“I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions. Whatever you see I swallow immediately. Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike.” Sylvia Plath
To the Maya, Mirror represented ‘flint’, a sharpening tool or blade used for many purposes, including knife and sword sharpening. The metaphor is therefore the idea of being able to ‘cut away’ any decay in your life. Release and forgive all that is holding you back from the light! When you ‘sharpen your own sword’, (and wipe your own mirror clean), you free yourself of all that is not serving you and therefore you free yourself of illusion.
Astrologically this month, Mercury retrograde in Leo directly impacts on how we express ourselves in the outside world. Leo naturally wants to shine its light, but just as the mirror wave demands, this astrology is asking for clarity, truth and personal perception to take precedence over performance. It asks you to take a step back, find substance in your expression, weight in your arguments and then examine the manner in which you project those ideas into the outside world.
A mirror wave can bring up highly charged reactions, such as frustration, anger, fear, resentment, judgment or jealousy; look at how we might project these feelings onto another. Any strong reaction signals an issue to work on in ourselves. The world is a mirror for us to truly see.
As most of us are aware, healing past trauma is a deeply personal journey. A powerful meditation or visualization for this wave is to imagine yourself walking into a hall of mirrors, seeing each aspect of your multi-dimensional self, whether positive or negative and simply accepting it. The mirror is merely a reflection of what is. As you learn to see yourself, you begin to see your emotional reactions as markers indicating where to focus your awareness for growth. Getting lost in fear, denial and judgment may feel like it is real and a reality you have unconsciously created and accepted, but the truth is, the mind is essentially still, silent and peaceful and these feelings are simply an ‘illusion’. Changing our perceptions or our mindset is often the necessary ingredient in order to make way for uninhibited growth.
The ‘gazing into a mirror technique’ is also a powerful tool that if done correctly can reinforce a deeper connection with the self. Many clients I know have succeeded in accessing past life recall through this concentrated practice. In can be a bit unsettling to see yourself literally ‘shape shift’ before your very eyes, so if you do try it, it needs to be undertaken in a meditative environment using candles, music and incense with absolute care and proper intention.
The Obsidian crystal took the form of a scrying mirror because of its shiny, reflective surface and hardness and was used (and still is) by the ancient shamanic healers. Working with black Obsidian will help you see into ‘the heart of a matter’ in this wavespell. Mirror energy has amazing power if used wisely and well.
If all of this seems a bit heavy for you… seek harmony and peace during this wave, taking the time to ‘quietly observe’ what comes to the surface for you.
“I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking him to change his ways; And no message could have been any clearer, If you wanna make the world a better place, Take a look at yourself, and then make a change!” – Michael Jackson
Crystals to work with in this wavespell are: Black Obsidian; Obsidian Scrying Mirror; Clear Quartz; Girasol; Obsidian Snowflake; Obsidian Sheen; Selenite; Optical Calcite; Diamond; Phantom Crystal; Clear Quartz with Actinolite; Silver Pyrite; Galena. This is really interesting! As you know, I've been bringing home quite a number of Quartzes, including mant Phantoms, and also Obsidian; I'm wearing a Rainbow Obsidian sphere pendant right now (also Star Ruby, Alexandrite, Aquamarine, Paraiba Tourmaline, White Sapphire, White Tourmaline and Sky Blue Topaz; carrying Humalayan DT Quartz, my Atlantean Clear Quartz, 2 × Lemurian Light crystals, Black Tourmaline and Pink Zircon). I've also found a very interesting little White Calcite crystal which looks like Quartz in its shape!
