The Art of Scrying

The Art of Scrying

Scrying is a method of divination (foretelling of the future via the unseen or unknown) by gazing into the shiny or reflective surface of an object. The scryer stares into the object until a vision is perceived in his or her mind's eye. It is an ancient art that dates back to early Egyptian and Arab civilizations, and throughout history has been used by wizards, witches, clairvoyants, seers and psychics to look into the future, answer questions posed by the querent, and even find lost objects or people. Nostradamus is perhaps the most famous of all scryers.

Preparation and Procedure You will need a candle or two. Choose a room or area of your house where it is quiet and where you are not likely to be disturbed. Dim the lights or completely turn them off. Low light is recommended to reduce distractions and allow you to concentrate on the crystal ball.

Using the light. Having a flickering candle around usually attains the best scrying results. This can be achieved with a very light draught through air entering a slightly open window. The candle should not be in your direct line of sight, but near enough to provide illumination and reflection on the scrying surface.

Create a sacred ‘bond’ with your crystal ball, by placing your palms on either side, so clasping it. State your intentions with reverence and in integrity and love.

Get comfortable. Find a seated position (or cross legged on the floor) in which you can gaze into your ball for an extended period (15 - 20 minutes) without moving.

Breathe and gaze. Take a few deep breaths and allow your gaze to become ‘soft’. As you gaze into the ball, allow your eyes to relax, unfocused vision, (lazy eyes as I call them!) and allow the images to arise in their own way and own time.

Record the images. You'll want to remember what you see in your crystal ball, so it's best to record the many images, colours, shapes as they appear. A friend or family member can jot down what you report seeing, or you can simply talk into a tape recorder, even better! Often images appear like symbols or flashes similar to those we experience in dream state.

Trust! And Happy Scrying!
